Artist Bio
I’m a self-taught abstract acrylic painter, originally from Istanbul, Turkiye. With a background in Chemistry and a PhD in Polymer Science and Technology, my journey into art began as a way to explore emotion through color, texture, and form beyond the structure and precision of science.
My work is about emotions and the inner states we often struggle to put into words. I’m drawn to those in-between moments: tension, uncertainty, vulnerability, and change where feelings are strong but language falls short. Each painting reflects a personal moment or feeling: the sudden joy of unexpected good news, the melancholy of a difficult night, the satisfaction and pride of achievement, and the uncertainty of the future. In this way, my canvases are emotional crystallizations of the pivotal experiences in my life.
I work with acrylic and mixed media on canvas, building surfaces in layers. I add, cover, scratch, and rework areas the way emotions build up, repeat, or get hidden over time. Marks like scribbles, grids, cross-hatching, and fragments of text appear naturally in the process. They feel like notes in a private journal. Colour is central to my work; I like placing bold, electric tones next to soft, quiet ones to create contrast and energy against stillness. I’m also drawn to what is revealed and what stays concealed.
Rather than defining meaning, I leave space for personal interpretation. I want viewers to pause, sense, and connect with the work in their own way to feel something personal, unexpected, or familiar. In a way, my paintings represent a transition from the clarity of science to the complexity of human emotion.
